In a class 3A second round contest featuring two top-ten ranked teams tonight; The West Delaware Hawks travel to Solon. Both squads come in with identical 9-1 records with Solon ranked 8th and West Delaware No. 9. Tenth-year Hawks head coach Doug Winkowitsch says the focused preparation by his players has been one of the keys in their success and it is even more important this time of the year:
West Delaware has won five straight games, after a week five loss to 2nd ranked Decorah, all by at least 15 points. Solon has rattled off eight wins, all by at least 21 points, since losing to Iowa City Regina in week two. LIVE on kmch.com, 1A 7th-ranked 10-0 Maquoketa Valley hosts 5th rated 9-1 Wilton. It’s a rematch of a second rounder in Delhi last season with MV winning 48-20. Both teams have many of the same faces leading the way. With the first round win over West Branch, the Wildcats are tied for most wins in program history with ten and look to set that new mark with a victory tonight. Our area playback game of the night takes place in Dyersville where class 2A 10th-ranked Beckman will entertain Waukon for the second year in a row. Last year, it was a quarterfinal contest with the Blazers’ prevailing 32-20. Beckman head coach Gregg Hammann has his team expecting another battle as the Indians have been one of the top 5 teams in 2A all season long:
Beckman dodged being upset in the first round against Hampton-Dumont last Wednesday night. Coach Hammann is not concerned that those factors will play a part in tonight’s game:
