Orville C. Newell, 88, of Manchester, Iowa, died at the Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque on Monday, November 4, 2013.  He was born on July 3, 1925, the son of   _______ and Rose (Wilhelm) Newell in Proctor, Minnesota.  Orville graduated from High School in Minnesota.

Orville served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946 and attended UCLA where he received a degree in meteorology.  He then was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy.  Orville was united in marriage to Beatrice _________.  Two sons were born to this union.  Orville and Beatrice later divorced.   After he returned from the service he was employed by several airlines.

On June 24, 1967, Orville married Margaret Schatz in Cedar Rapids.  They resided in Cedar Rapids and owned and operated Lincoln Way Mobile Home Court and an adjoining motel.  In 1986, they built a house and lived north of Edgewood until 2006 when they moved to Manchester.

Orville enjoyed woodworking, working on his property at Edgewood,  sports,  and was an avid table tennis player.  He was a CCC volunteer and worked at Backbone Park.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Manchester;  his two sons, Mark (Karen) Newell of Pennsylvania and Blaine Newell of Illinois; two step-children, Arna (Thomas) Rutledge of Cedar Rapids, and Janice Rutledge (Dave Ulrick) of Iowa City; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;  and  two brothers, Walter (Lois) Newell of Minnesota, and Rosemary Spaulding of Florida.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Joe and Robert.

Funeral Service:  10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013, at First Lutheran Church in Manchester.  Officiating:  Rev. Tony D. Ede

Visitation:  3:00  to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday,  November 7, 2013, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester and one hour before services at the church on Friday.

Interment:  Oakland Cemetery  -  Manchester, Iowa
