Regional Volleyball: Hawks And Mustangs Move On to State

The class 4A 3rd-ranked West Delaware Hawks Volleyball team improved their mark to 37-5 with a 3-1 win over 5th-rated Cedar Rapids Xavier last night in Dyersville. The Hawks punch their ticket to the state volleyball tournament for the eighth  time in program history, all since 2003. The Hawks fell behind losing game 1; 25-21 but the rattled off three wins in a row; 25- 22, 19,23. Hawks Junior Emily Thole says her team was determined to turn thing around quickly after the rough first set:

The Hawks received the 3rd seed in the 4A bracket and will take on 6th seeded Davenport Assumption, a team they beat 2-1 back on Sept. 28th at the Monticello Invite, next Tuesday afternoon at 2pm in first round play at the newly renovated US Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids.

In other regional finals from last night:

Clss 3A No 10 Independence improved to 35-8 with a 3-1 win over CP-U in Vinton. The Mustangs continue their remarkable turnaround campaign as one of the most improved teams in the state as they reached the state tournament for the first time ever in program history. The Mustangs will open up state action next Tuesday evening against the number one seed, MOC Floyd Valley at 6pm.
