West Delaware Hawks Ready For State Volleyball

By  Jon Swisher- Sports Director:

The 2013 state volleyball tournament gets underway today downtown Cedar Rapids inside the US Cellular Center.

Third seeded West Delaware will open up their 8th trip to state in volleyball program history when they take on the sixth seed Davenport Assumption in a class 4A quarterfinal.  After qualifying for state last season and getting beat in the first round by the number one seed, Hawks head coach Brett Mather says the thrill of just getting there for this group is overshadowed by the expectations they have for themselves:

MATHER 2 11-12

Despite how well they would like to do this week, Coach Mather knows his team has to be focused on one match at a time if they want to win and move on:

MATHER1 11-12

You can hear more from Coach Mather on his pregame interview with Sports Director Jon Swisher starting around 1:50pm this afternoon, as we’ll have all the action from the tournament live on KMCH and kmch.com with Jon and Joan Salow.

The Hawks defeated the Knights 2-1 at the Monticello Invite back on Sept. 28th.

In 3A action, Independence makes their first ever appearance when they take on the top-seed MOC Floyd Valley at 6pm this evening.
