The Manchester Police Department is purchasing a new K-9 squad car. K-9 Officer Brad Comer and the department’s K-9 dog, Tya, currently use a 2003 Ford Crown Vic, which is now over 10 years old and needs to be replaced. The police department has budgeted around 23-thousand dollars for a 2014 Chevy Tahoe. Some additional funds are needed to purchase the vehicle, which will come from the K-9 Fund and Special Uses Fund. Neither of the funds are supported by property taxes – the K-9 Fund is financed by donations for the K-9 unit, and the Special Uses Funds come from seizures or forfeitures awarded by the courts. The City of Manchester will help pay the remaining difference of about 95-hundred dollars through Franchise Fees.
