Three strains of flu are circulating in Iowa. And while there haven’t been many cases of influenza reported in the area, Delaware County Public Health Manager Delma Hardin says having three strains means that without a flu vaccination, you could become ill with the flu three different times.
The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older should get a flu shot every year. Around this time of year, flu vaccination usually drops off quickly because many people think getting vaccinated after November is too late. But Hardin says there’s still plenty of time to get a flu shot.
Some area residents have been coming down with the stomach bug, but Hardin says that’s not influenza. She says the flu is a respiratory illness – and it comes on quickly.
You can still schedule your flu shot by contacting Delaware County Public Health at 927-7551 or your local medical provider.
