Junior guard Melissa Dixon placed her name among University of Iowa women’s basketball royalty Saturday by sinking seven 3-point field goals during the Hawkeyes’ 102-65 win against UNC-Wilmington in the Triple Sports Cancun Challenge Mayan Tournament in Hard Rock Hotel.
Dixon’s long-range precision matches an Iowa game record also held by Lindsey Meder, Kamille Wahlin, and Jaime Printy. Dixon finished with a career-high 32 points and was named MVP of the Mayan Division; junior Samantha Logic was also named to the All-Tournament team.
The 23rd-ranked University of Iowa men’s basketball came up on the short end of an 88-83 decision, falling in overtime to Villanova in the championship game of the Battle 4 Atlantis on Saturday in the Bahamas. The loss drops the Hawkeyes’ record to 7-1 this season.
