By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The high boys basketball season starts the new season tonight for a majority of our area teams. The West Delaware Hawks tip off their season inside Seedorff Gymnasium with a WaMaC conference cross-division contest against Vinton-Shellsburg in the debut of new head coach Matt Uthoff. The Independence native, West Delaware Basketball standout and 2000 graduate returns to his alma mater after 7 years of head coaching with stops at Midland of Wyoming, Central City and the past three seasons in Maquoketa.

Coach Uthoff says the players have handled the preseason well with getting adjusted to a different style of basketball:

UTHOFF1 12-3

As the varsity squad lost 7 seniors to graduation, it opens the door for other players to assume new roles within the roster, Coach Uthoff is pleased on how they have responded and believes the results of that could be a good amount of success:

UTHOFF2 12-3

The WaMaC tripleheader at West Delaware high school starts this afternoon at 4:30pm with the Freshmen at followed by the Sophomores at 6:00 and the Varsity around 7:30. We’ll have live updates during coverage of West Delaware Wrestling.
