West Delaware Wrestling Starts Varsity Schedule Tonight

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The West Delaware varsity wrestling squad begins their new season tonight taking part in double-dual JV/Varsity matches at Waterloo West high school against the Wahawks and Waverly-Shell Rock. The Hawks are coming off of one of the greatest wrestling campaigns in school program history as they dominated their competition with a 28-1 dual meet record. They won all 11 tournament titles and topped it off with the Class 2A State tournament title.  Most teams who lose the talent the Hawks did due to graduation would be rebuilding this season but not this traditionally rich program who will reload with a large senior class with different amounts of varsity experience.
Nineteenth-year head coach Jeff Voss says right now his athletes are gearing up for continuous competition mode:

VOSS1 12-3

Coach Voss hasn’t changed his mind-set to beginning the season, the goal is still to see how much they can improve and not worry about last year’s results:

VOSS2 12-3

The Hawks will take on Waterloo West first starting at 5:30 this evening then wrestle Waverly-Shell Rock. All the opening night action can be heard here on KMCH and KMCH.com with Jamie Vaske, Roger Reed and former Hawk wrestling standout Nate Lahr starting at 5:30.
