Kathryn Lee Howlett, 96, of Independence, Iowa died Friday evening, December 13th, 2013, at the Buchanan County Health Center’s Long Term Care Center in Independence, Iowa.
Kathryn was born on February 7, 1917, in Clayton, Ohio the daughter of Herman W. and Estella A. (Wenger) Betz. She received her education from the Clayton Schools, and her teaching certificate from the Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. On July 27, 1940 she was united into marriage to Rev. Robert A. Howlett in Englewood, Ohio, The family lived in Floyd, IA, Zumbrota, MN, Rochester, MN, Waterloo, IA, Des Moines, IA, Walker, IA, and St. Paul, MN, while her husband ministered in those communities prior to his retirement at which time they moved to Independence, IA.
Kathryn was a member of the Hope Wesleyan Church, Independence, IA., She loved her family, and enjoyed cooking, music, entertaining, crafting, and working with the children of the church.
She is survived by two sons; Robert D. (Marla) Howlett, Independence, IA, and Donald (Dana) Howlett, Marion, IN, and four grandchildren; Matthew, Daniel, Bethany and Stephen Howlett, a great grandson; Zachary Howlett, and a sister; Lillian Unger, Englewood, OH.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at Hope Wesleyan Church, Independence, IA with Rev. Robert Solon officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 3 to 7 PM Monday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence and from 9 AM till Services Tuesday at the Church.
