In just a few short months, Manchester will be home to a new brewery. The historic Masonic Lodge building downtown is being renovated into the Franklin Street Brewing Company. Brothers and co-owners Chad and Kyle Sands have been hosting tours of the progress, most recently giving the Window Walk visitors and the Manchester Chamber Ambassadors a sneak preview. The plaster walls on the first floor have been removed to reveal the original brick, and the drop ceiling tiles have come down to show off the grand 13-foot ceiling. Chad says the renovation and construction process has been going really well.
Once construction is finished, the tap house will offer a relaxed atmosphere with sofas, tables and a large bar with plenty of seating. Phase Two of the project is the installation and calibration of the brewing system, which includes nine 120-gallon serving tanks and three fermenters. Once the brewery’s equipment is delivered, it will take time to calibrate the system to ensure the beer recipes turn out exactly like the brothers want them. Franklin Street Brewing Company will feature a wide variety of handcrafted ales – including award-winning recipes – all locally-brewed on site. Kyle says they’re looking at starting with eight or nine beers.
If the serving tanks arrive within the next two weeks, Chad says they could open as early as mid-March. Both brothers say the community’s support and excitement for the new brewery has been wonderful.
The Franklin Street Brewing Company already has glasses and growlers available, and many area residents have been purchasing the souvenirs as Christmas gifts. You can follow along with the brewery’s renovation progress on Facebook and on their website at FranklinStreetBrewing.com.
