Sculpture offers Christmas cheer to passersby

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — A hat rack sculpture in downtown Sioux City is providing a perfect spot for some secret Santas.

The sculpture stands outside City Hall, and on Tuesday someone hung gift bags containing items such as winter gloves and hats.

Stefanie Goergen, a clerk who works in City Hall, tells the Sioux City Journal ( most passersby haven’t snagged a free item, but she liked the idea.

In the past, people also have hung coats on the rack.

Todd Cummings says he found his coat on the rack and remains grateful, saying “I’m wearing it now because it’s cold.”
