Edward Holtz, Edgewood

Edward Vincent Holtz, 90, of Edgewood, Iowa, died at the Edgewood Convalescent Home on Friday, December 27, 2013.  He was born in rural Littleport, Iowa, on June 1, 1923, the son of  Aloysius and Clara (Thillen) Holtz.  Edward attended rural school near Littleport.

 On May 30, 1944, Edward was united in marriage to Leta Mae Kramer at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earlville.  Together they farmed and lived near Manchester for 43 years. Edward also worked for 18 years at the Edgewood Feedmill.  In 1986 they moved to Edgewood.  Edward enjoyed farming and was a long time member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church.

 Survivors include his ten children, Jean (Larry) Gregory of Cedar Falls, Janice (Ron) Boll of Dundee, Joyce (Dave) Wessel of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, Edward (Lauretta) Holtz of Naples, Florida, Joan (Kevin) Meyer of Woodbury, Minnesota, Dean (Debbie) Holtz of Delaware, Iowa, Janine (Doug) Ehrler of Manchester, Steve (Penny) Holtz of Manchester, Julie (Steve) Mensen of Earlville, and Jeri Lynne (Bill) Nulty of West St. Paul, Minnesota; 36 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Alberta Ronnebaum of Earlville and Marie Wulfekuhle of Edgewood; and one brother, Albert (Lucille) Holtz of Earlville.

 Edward was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leta; a son-in-law, Don Jasper; a granddaughter, Caitlin Nulty; grandson -in-law, Eric Rasmussen; twin great-grandchildren; triplet great-grandchildren; one brother, Francis Holtz; a brother in infancy; and one sister, Theresa Demeter.

 Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Edgewood, Iowa. Officiating:  Rev. Stephen Lundgren


Visitation: 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood, Iowa.  Also, 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at the church prior to services.

Interment: St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetery – Edgewood, Iowa.
