A Manchester teen will be competing in the Iowa Pork Queen Contest later this month. Leah Willie served as last year’s Delaware County Pork Queen and will represent the county at this year’s state contest. Willie is among nine contestants competing for the title and the only contestant in the KMCH listening area. The contestants will be judged on their overall knowledge of the pork industry and Iowa agriculture, as well as their interviewing and communications skills, poise and presentation. A Pork Princess will also be chosen from the group of girls, and there are three separate contestants competing for the Iowa Premier Pork Youth Ambassador. The new queen, princess and youth ambassador will represent the Iowa pork industry throughout the year at various promotional and educational events around the state, as well as at out-of-state events. The queen and youth ambassador each receive a two-thousand dollar college scholarship and the princess is awarded a one-thousand dollar scholarship from the Iowa Pork Producers Association. The 42nd Annual Iowa Pork Congress Banquet will be held January 22nd in Des Moines.
