Mark Monaghan, Ryan

Mark JMark J. Monaghan, 46, of Ryan, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester.  Mark was born August 12, 1967 at Manchester, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Margaret (Reinert) Monaghan.  He was educated at St. Mary Catholic School and graduated from West Delaware High School in 1986.

On April 8, 1989, Mark was united in marriage to Lisa Vaske at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville.  Three sons were born to this union.  After their marriage, they farmed near Central City for seven years and since 1996 they farmed north of Ryan, where they currently reside.

Mark was a life-long member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was also the current President of the Delaware County Cattlemen’s Association.

Mark enjoyed farming, raising cattle, playing cards, and grilling with the cattlemen.  He loved his family and attending his boys’ activities.

 Mark is survived by his wife Lisa of Ryan; three sons, Austin, Troy, and Cody-all at home; his parents, Bernard and Margaret Monaghan of Manchester; four sisters, Joyce (Dave) Lux of Manchester, Ellen (Al) Krogmann of Manchester, Julie (Jason) Gillihan of Manchester, and Paula (Rick) Deutmeyer of Manchester; two brothers, Loras (Brenda) Monaghan of Manchester, and John (Polly) Monaghan of Manchester; mother-in-law Loretta Vaske of Manchester; two brothers-in-law, Dave Krogmann of Mt. Vernon and Loras Engelken of Mitchell, South Dakota ; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and seven brothers and sisters-in law, Janice (Jeff) Bahl; of Dubuque, Joyce (Allen) Burkle of Ryan, Alan (Felicia) Vaske of Dundee, Mark (Natalie) Vaske of Manchester, Lori (Joe) Hoeger of Hopkinton, Dean (Julia) Vaske of Manchester and  Lois (Robert) Goedken of Dundee.

 He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Krogmann in September 1999, and Laurie Engelken in April 2003; his grandparents, Anselm and Henrietta Reinert and Raymond and Lillian Monaghan; and father-in-law, Arthur Vaske.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 16, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, Iowa.  Concelebrants:  Father Joseph Schneider and Father Richard Gaul

 Visitation: Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester.  There will be a 2:00 P.M. Scripture Service at the church.  Friends may also call after 9:00 A.M. Thursday at the church.

 Interment: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Manchester.
