Clara Elrose Brown of Strawberry Point

Clara Elrose Brown, 93, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home.  She was born on July 3, 1920, in Dodge County Minnesota the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Sorn) Mensing, the seventh of eight children.  Clara graduated from Kasson, Minnesota High School in 1938 and Beauty School in St. Paul.

On January 23, 1940, Clara was united in marriage to James Brown her high school classmate in Rochester, Minnesota.  Together they operated a Barber/Beauty Shop in Kasson.  After Jim returned from his military duty they sold the Barber/Beauty Shop and bought a dairy farm near Strawberry Point where they farmed for over 30 years.

Clara had the amazing ability to produce three meals each day, assist with field work, milk, garden, can vegetables and jams, yet keep house and guide her five sons.  Her favorite activities were feeding and watching birds, maintaining  a garden and raspberry patch, and baking, quilting, and sewing.  She was an active member of the Edgewood Bible Church for over 60 years.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her husband, of 74 years, James; five sons, Gary (Joan) of Strawberry Point, Randall (Trallee) of LaFayette, New Jersey, Don (Mickie) of Castle Rock, Colorado, Jule (Barbara)  and Scott (Mary Jo) all of Arlington, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Wilbur and Edward; and four sisters, Irene Naylor, Lucille Stucky, Viola Gossard, and Vivian.

Funeral Service:  10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014, at the Edgewood Bible Church in Edgewood.  Officiating:  Rev. Jim Rinehart

Visitation:  4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point and one hour before service at the church on Friday.

 Inurnment at a later date:  Cass Township Cemetery – Strawberry Point, Iowa.
