Maquoketa Valley will begin locking their school doors at the Delhi campus. The doors will now be locked from 8:15 am until 2:45 pm. Visitors or students who come to the school building during those hours will be required to buzz into the office. The secretaries will then communicate with them over the intercom before pushing a button to unlock the door for them to enter.
Maquoketa Valley staff recently participated in ALICE training, which teaches schools how to protect themselves from intruders. Area state patrol and police officers led the training.
The Maquoketa Valley School Board is considering moving the student calendar from 180 days to a minimum of one-thousand eighty hours for the upcoming school year. A public hearing on the issue will be held February 17th at 7 pm.
A couple of staff changes have been approved by the board. Tim Andrews has signed on as Maquoketa Valley’s Head Golf Coach and Curt Feldt has resigned as Assistant High School Girls Track Coach.
The Maquoketa Valley Music Department has been granted permission to go to Nashville May 28th through June 2nd for a music trip. And the vocal jazz group, Smooth Harmony, has been given the okay to attend the Vertical Voices Jazz Festival in Rochelle, Illinois on March 1st.
And FFA students Maddi Gibbs and Andrew Palmersheim gave a presentation to the school board on their recent trip to the FFA National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. Gibbs was honored with the Reserve National Champion Dairy Handler Career Development Event Award while at the convention, receiving a gold jacket pin and a 150-dollar scholarship.
