By Jon Swisher-Sports Director and Jamie Vaske-Sports Broadcaster/Reporter:

In wrestling last night, the WaMaC East division title was on the line in Epworth as 2A 5th-ranked West Delaware and 3A 10th-rated Western Dubuque took to the mat. In the second dual of the night that went back and forth, the Bobcats got out to a 9-0 after a 7-0 win from Brennan Koeperich and a forfeit by Collin Koeperich but Hawk senior Patrick Woods closed the gap with a 37 second fall at 113. The two teams then traded wins in the next 4 matches that gave the Hawks a 22-15 lead but Western Dubuque came storming back.  They picked up falls from seniors Dylan Gansen, Bryce Hoerner, and freshman Max Lyon giving the Bobcats a 33-32 lead going into the last match where junior Dylan Hoefler played the hero for the Bobcats as he picked up a take down and 2 point near fall and defeated Collin Weber 7-5 to propel Western Dubuque to a 36-32 victory and forced a 3 way tie with West Delaware and Mount Vernon for the East Division crown.
The share of the conference title is the 19th for West Delaware since 1990 and 15th for head coach Jeff Voss. For the Bobcats it is the program’s 9th conference championship since the inception of the sport in 1965 and first for third-year head coach Paul Cleary.
Coach Cleary was extremely happy that his team was able to pull out a milestone victory as it was the first win over the Hawks since the 1999-2000 season:
