West Delaware boys and girls varsity bowling teams were both victorious Friday night in a triangular meet against Independence and Maquoketa. The girls adapted to the lane conditions at Lucky 10 Lanes in Independence quite easily, the boys on the other hand had to work much harder to find the shot.
In the boys meet, Independence was leading after the individual games by a total of 1790 to West Delaware 1784 and Maquoketa 1747. The Hawks were led by Zach Weber 393 series (162-231), followed by Dylan Werner 364 series(166-198), Terrel Haas 351 series(171-180), Logan Marsden 340 series (160-180), Micky Lindsay 336 (145-191) and John Miester 307 )139-168). In the bakers round the hawks pulled together and managed to pull ahead of Independence with bakers scores of 171, 174, 268, 188, 192, for a 993 and a 2777 total. Independence had a 2681 total and Maquoketa a 2631. “This was a good meet for us, it was great to come from behind and have to work for each game, this was a good test of how we need to compete as a team.” Commented Coach John Chapman. The boys have 5 wins and 2 losses.
The West Delaware girls got off to a nice start in the individual games portion of the meet. In round one West Delaware had a score of 1762 to Maquoketa 1438 and then Independence 1300. The hawks were led by Riley Cole with a 381 series (178-203) followed by Abby Beck 374 series (189-185), Chelsie Mangold 346 series (202-144), Hope Mozingo 338 series (184-154) Kaitlyn Salow 323 series (159-164) and Kaitlyn Werner 302 series (151-151). The girls kept up their scoring with a 854 bakers round consisting of a 212, 161, 119, 180 and 182. Maquoketa had a bakers score of 594 and Independence 669. West Delaware finished the meet with a total score of 2616 to Maquoketa 2107 and Independence 1894. “These were not easy conditions, the girls adapted well, stayed focused and bowled competitively” said Coach Ken Boesenberg The girls have 5 wins and 2 losses.
Next Friday the Hawks will travel to Farley to bowl against Western Dubuque at 4pm.
