The 10th-ranked Western Dubuque Bobcat Wrestling team competed in their 3rd straight class 3A Team Regional Dual Final and 5th in 7 years, last night in Bettendorf taking on 6th-rated Pleasant Valley. Colin Koerperich got things going for the Bobcats with a win but PV answered winning the next 3 matches with 2 of them coming with bonus points. Austin Hosch stopped the bleeding momentarily with a tech fall to make the score 13-8 in favor of PV. In a match-up of top-five ranked wrestlers, No. 4 Max Lyon of WD started out down 4-0 heading into the 3rd period. Then the freshman Lyon picked up a reversal to cut the lead in half but wasn’t able to turn his opponent and lost 5-2. The Bobcats, got a 5-2 win from Bryce Hoerner over a 7th-ranked PV wrestler and had a fall from Brennan Koerperich but the Spartans proved to be too much for the Bobcats and they went on to win 38-17 and advanced to the state duals next Wednesday. Bobcats third-year head coach Paul Cleary says the credit goes to PV for pulling out the close matches but it was a much needed test his team should benefit from after 11 days off:
