Post season wrestling got underway on Saturday as grapplers from around the area competed to finish in the top two of their weight classes at sectionals to move on to next Saturday’s district tournaments. At the sectional in Manchester West Delaware took home a team title which qualified them for Tuesday night’s regional dual in Manchester.  The Hawks qualified 12 wrestlers to districts, Patrick Woods, Logan Reilly, Sam Phillips, Connor Wickman, Beau Vaske, Tim Tutton, Max Ridenour, Jake Voss, Brent Lammers, Coy Roussell, Scott Taylor, and Richard Heveron. Beckman finished in 3rd place and had 3 wrestlers qualify, Cody Feldman, Cody Naber, and Logan Pasker. Monticello had 5 wrestlers qualify, Anthony Kinley, Dalton Husmann, Jordan Barker, Zach Timm, and Daniel Pike.

In Independence the Mustangs tied atop the tournament for the second week in a row as they and Charles City tied with 249 1/2 points but Independence won on the tie breaker of most champions as they finished with 7 and Charles City having just 5 while qualifying for the regional duals. Mitch Evens, Drew Davis, Chase Straw, Jake Juhl, Nick Holt, Kyle Fank, Matt McMillan, Jason Grover, and Mitch Ciesielski all qualified for the Mustangs.

In Class 1A there were two area sectionals as at Starmont the host Stars qualified 4 wrestlers to districts, Kody Kleve, Jett Kuhens, Matt Cook, and Chase Peterman. Ed-Co had 3 wrestlers move on, Mike Jones, Carter Aulwes, and Sawyer Amling and East Buchanan won the tournament and will wrestle in the regional duals Tuesday night and qualified 6 wrestlers Gannon Cook, Dusty Decker, Michael Naber, Tyler Hoffman, Nile White, and Jordan Lentz.

In Delhi, Maquoketa Valley also qualified for the regional duals with a runner up finish while qualifying 8 wrestlers. Mason Hermanson, Jared Coyle, Trevor Koopmann, Steve Huber, Alec McDowell, Eric Heims, Ryan Parmely, and Tyler Yonkovic. North Linn had 3 wrestlers move on, Brock Henderson, Dalton Bell, and Kyler Schott.

The West Delaware boys and girls bowling teams traveled to Farley to compete against West Dubuque on Friday afternoon.  On the boys side the Bobcats bowled very well and were victorious with a score of 3220 to West Delaware 2988.  The Hawks were led by Freshman Logan Marsden who had a 442 series followed by Mickey Lindsay 422, Zach Weber 416, John Miester 383, Dylan Werner 380 and Terrel Haas 337.   Western Dubuque bowled a 1008 in the bakers round while the hawks only scored a 944.   The Hawk boys dropped to  5-3 on the season

The West Delaware girls bowled real well and defeated the Bobcats by a score of  2853 to 2498.  The Hawks were led by Hope Mozingo 408 series, followed by Kaitlyn Werner 396, Kaitlyn Salow 393, Chelsie Mangold 393, Riley Cole 381 and Abby Becker 291.  Western Dubuque outscored the Hawks in the bakers round by a score of 925 to 882, however the Hawks had gone into that round with a 398 pin led and finished the meet with a victory.  West Delaware, who was just 30 pins shy of setting a new school record improved their mark to 6-2.

This Friday is the Hawks last regular season contest at Lightning Lanes.  It will be the Parent and Senior recognition meet, competing against Tripoli starting at 4pm.
