A chance to advance to the State Wrestling Tournament was on the line for many area wrestlers on Saturday as individuals from all classes competed to finish in the top two from each weight class to advance to next week’s state meet in Des Moines. In class 2A action at Dewitt, West Delaware had 5 wrestlers qualify; Patrick Woods, Sam Phillips, Connor Wickman, Jake Voss, and Brent Lammers. Beckman and Monticello each qualified one wrestler each as Cody Naber made it for the Blazers and Daniel Pike moved on for the Panthers. Also in class 2A Independence wrestled their district meet in New Hampton and had 5 wrestlers advance Mitch Evens, Chase Straw, Kyle Fank, Matt McMillan, and Mitch Ciesielski. In class 1A from Jesup Maquoketa Valley qualified 4 wrestlers as Jared Coyle, Steve Huber, Ryan Parmely, and Tyler Yonkovic advanced for the Wildcats. East Buchanan and North Linn qualified two wrestlers each. For the Buccaneers Gannon Cook and Tyler Hoffman and for North Linn Brock Henderson and Kyler Schott moved on. Starmont and Ed-Co had one each as Jett Kuhens for the Stars and Sawyer Amling makes his 3rd state meet for the Vikings. Western Dubuque hosted their district meet in Epworth and enjoyed the home mat advantage as they qualified 6 wrestlers to the state meet, Collin Koerperich, Bailey Thurm, Austin Hosch, Andy Dougherty, Dylan Gansen, and Max Lyon made it for the Bobcats.
