The Dyersville Area Relay for Life is Friday night. Area residents will head over to the Beckman High School parking lot to honor those who have fought cancer and help raise money for the American Cancer Society. Chamber Director and Relay Chairperson Karla Thompson says everyone’s invited to come out starting at 6 o’clock Friday night and see what the Relay for Life is all about.
The luminary ceremony will begin at dusk around 9 pm, with luminaries available for purchase for $5 if you’d like to honor someone who has battled cancer. And the Dove Release is also a way you can honor those who have fought the disease.
The Dyersville Area Relay for Life had set a fundraising goal of 200-thousand dollars, and with this year’s raffle proceeds from the Purple Survivor semi, they have already surpassed that goal…
And that new goal has also been reached since we talked with Thompson earlier this week… Dyersville’s fundraising total now stands at over 248-thousand dollars, and that doesn’t include the money that will be raised Friday through Victory Ford’s Drive For Your Community test drive campaign, Team Victory’s “Beat, Bash and Break for a Cure”, the Dove Release, the luminaries and all the fundraising activities at the event itself. Thompson says the Dyersville Area Relay for Life has just been recognized as the number one Relay in Iowa. The distinction is based on the amount raised per capita. If you’d like be part of the Dyersville Area Relay for Life, you can stop by Beckman anytime from 6 o’clock Friday night through 6 o’clock Saturday morning.
