A Fairbank man was seriously injured while leading authorities on a high speed chase recently. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office just released details of the accident that injured 20-year old Derek Macke. They say Macke was led a Buchanan County deputy patrol vehicle on a pursuit northbound on W-33 heading into Stanley on Friday night, June 20th. Fayette County deputies tried tracking him down, but couldn’t. Two hours later, they were notified that a motorcyclist was at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein with serious injuries. Investigators discovered Macke had been leading the deputy on a chase when he lost control of his motorcycle while heading into Fayette on Highway 3. Macke was later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Macke faces several charges, including reckless driving. The accident remains under investigation.
