The Beckman Blazer baseball team continued their winning ways in a class 2A semifinal last night inside Principal Park in Des Moines by coming back and taking the victory over Van Meter. The Blazers won their 17th straight postseason game dating back to 2012 and 8th game won in a row at state since that same year. It a back-and-forth tussle that saw the second-seeded Blazers come out on top in the end with an 8-5 win. Beckman led 4-1, then fell behind 5-4, then scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on to win. Van Meter was able to get just one runner on base in the final two innings, and finished the season with a record of 32-3. Senior Mitch Steger led the way offensively with 2 hits, 3 rbis and 2 runs scored while Connor Klostermann added 2 hits and 2 rbi, Tyler Knepper also had 2 hits, scoring once, Ben Loeffelholz and Eric Boeckenstedt had a hit and scored twice. Klosterman got the win on the mound, his sixth of the season by only allowing 3 hits and walking none in relief of Riley Vorwald.  Beckman improved to 29-13, the win was the 27th at the state tournament in 16 trips that ranks them # 3 on the all-time most win list in all four classes. It also gave 40th season head coach Tom Jenk Jr. his 1,009th career win moving him to sixth on the national list for most wins by a varsity head baseball coach. The 14th semifinal contest gave Beckman their 12th appearance in a  state championship game now set for Saturday afternoon. The two-time defending champs will appear in their 4th title contest in 6 seasons and 3rd in a row against the very familiar opponent, North Polk, who they have beaten the past two years.
