HS Baseball; WD Hawks In Sub State For First Time Since 2008

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The class 3A 4th-ranked 31-6 West Delaware Hawks are coming off of their District Final Championship victory over Crestwood 9-3 on Monday night. It’s the program’s first trip back to a sub state contest since 2008. It sets up a meeting of top 5 rated teams tonight in Oelwein as #1 34-2 Waverly-Shell Rock stands in the way of advancing to the first State Tournament since ’08. The Hawks have won the last two games against the Go-Hawks, in 2011 first round of Districts 6-2 and a late season non-conference match-up 2-0 in Waverly last year. The Hawks had a great effort from junior Seth Wedewer Monday night, a complete game no-walk outing that saved the rest of the Hawks pitching staff just in case an all hands on deck approach is needed versus W-SR. First year head coach Nate Lahr is very confident in that fact:

LAHR2 7-23

Coach Lahr and his coaching staff knows Waverly-Shell Rock is a very talented squad:

LAHR1 7-23

All the coverage from Oelwein tonight with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Bill Logan on KMCH and KMCH.com will start around 6:50pm.
