The No. 4 West Delaware Baseball had their fine season come to a close last night in Oelwein with a class 3A sub state hard fought loss to # 1 Waverly-Shell Rock, 2-0. The Hawks and G0-Hawks remained scoreless until the 5th inning when W-SR took advantage of 2 WD errors to score the first run. They added one more on 2 hits in the 6th. Senior Jake Voss had a solid outing, allowing 4 hits, 2 free passes while striking out 10. First-year head coach Nate Lahr summed up the final game for this years’ squad:

A big crowd of nearly 750 fans gathered inside the Oelwein Veterans Complex, a majority of them the orange and black wearing supporters. Coach Lahr realizes the support from their fan base is special and isn’t taken for granted:
The Hawks finished with a 31-7 record, winning the WaMaC crown with a 23-5 mark.
