HS Basketball: Thursday 2-16 Results/Friday 2-17 Preview

High School Boys district basketball play resumed last night in class 1A/2A. Our featured games from KMCH Sports saw:

4-19 East Buchanan upset 15-7 Ed-Co 79-77 at Starmont. The Vikings never led the contest and the Buccaneers were able to connect on 14 3-pointers. The Bucs advance on to play Central Elkader Tuesday night in a semifinal back at Starmont at 6:30pm.

The Class 2A 5th-ranked 20-2 Cascade Cougars came back in the second half and held on to beat their Highway 151 rival, 11-12 Monticello 57-46. It was a back and forth contest that had 11 lead changes, 4 ties and included 15 three-pointers for both teams, 8 by Cascade and 7 for Monticello. Cascade sealed the win by making 10 of 13 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.  The Cougars were led by Brock Simon with 18 points, Gannon O’Brien had 14 and 9 for Haris Hoffman. Jacob Manternach and Andrew Tjaden led the Panthers with 14, Kyle Sperfslage had 9. The Panthers finished their season at 11-12 and say goodbye to 6 seniors. The Cougars will face another rival, Beckman, Tuesday night at 7pm at West Delaware High School. The Blazers beat MFL-MarMac in the first game in Cascade 62-41.

Clayton Ridge  55 Starmont 48

North Linn beat Maquoketa Valley 86-51. The Class 1A top-ranked 22-0 Lynx will host Easton Valley Tuesday night.

In regular season 3A action last night, the No. 1 West Delaware Hawks improved to 21-0 with a home victory over Western Dubuque. The Hawks become the 2nd team in program history to go undefeated in regular season play. They also become the squad second now in program history with most wins behind the 1999-2000 team who went 24-1. West Delaware will open up postseason play at home Monday night at 8pm against Clear Creek-Amana.

Tonight, postseason high school girls regional basketball resumes tonight for Class 1A and 2A teams around the state:

Our featured game takes place in Iowa City where 14th-ranked 19-4 Maquoketa Valley goes up against Class 2A #1 undefeated 23-0 Regina. For the Wildcats, they will competing in a regional semifinal for the 7th time in the past 9 seasons. All the coverage begins around 6:50pm with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Bill Logan on KMCH and/or KMCH.com.

Class 2A 5th-ranked 22-1 North Linn will host 19-2 Grundy Center.

Class 2A 8th-ranked 20-2 Cascade will entertain Clayton Ridge.

In Class 1A, 8-15 East Buchanan will travel to Lansing Kee.
