The 2017 High School Boys Basketball State Tournament begins this morning inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The Class 1A top-ranked 25-0 North Linn Lynx will take part in the second 1A quarterfinal at 12:15pm as they will face 18-7 Maple Valley-Anthon Oto. It’s the 3rd trip in school program history for North Linn and first since 1977. Lynx 17th-year head coach Mike Hilmer talks about the extra work involved but all the work is more than worth it to get the opportunity to represent your school at the state tournament:
Coach Hilmer is very proud of what this group has achieved this season and the goal of getting the tournament has definitely been thought of as a possibility with this group:
The 1A bracket looks to be a competitive field and coach Hilmer knows hi team will have to be focused on each game plan:
The out of routine schedule that the state tournament brings can always cause concern for some teams but coach Hilmer says his coaching staff and players will embrace it and try to use it to their advantage:

The 4th-seeded Class 2A Cascade Cougars will battle River Valley Conference foe #5 22-2 Camanche in the 2nd 2A quarterfinal contest tonight around 8:15pm. Cascade has been at the state tourney five times in the last seven years now and it’s the ninth all-time. Even though the Cougars program is used to being at state, first-year head coach Jacob Brindle says this group is fairly young and only 2 of the members of the team played last year that ended with a runner-up finish:
