By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:
The West Delaware and Western Dubuque softball teams, will try for the second night in 3 days to get their class 4A Region semifinal contest in, tonight at Sill Field in Manchester. The game was rained out Saturday night as hard rain fell minutes before the opening pitch was scheduled, after a nearly hour and fifteen minute rain delay which included another hard rain storm that lasted longer than the first downpour, the decision was made to postpone until tonight. The 10th-ranked 28-7 Hawks and the 19-21 Bobcats now know who their opponent would be Tuesday night in a Regional Final in Manchester as Waverly-Shell Rock defeated Charles City in Waverly Saturday night in a game completed around 10:30pm because of the rain storms up north. It will be the third meeting between the two WD squads as a split occurred back on Wednesday night July 2nd in their WaMaC East division doubleheader. All the action can be heard here from KMCH Sports live on KMCH and KMCH.com with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Bill Logan starting with the pregame show at 6:50pm.
Also in softball tonight;
In a 2A/3A Regional Final doubleheader at Cedar Rapids Jefferson, #15 Alburnett will take on 14-rated North Cedar at 5:30pm followed by 6th-ranked CP-U and #12 Mount Vernon.
In high school baseball tonight;
The 4th-ranked 27-6 West Delaware Hawks will wrap-up their regular season with a WaMaC conference cross-division doubleheader at Center Point-Urbana. The Hawks came in 2nd place behind Beckman with their 5th East side loss, against Western Dubuque Friday night, they can still win the overall conference crown with 2 wins tonight. One victory would tie them with Mount Vernon.
In a make-up class 2A baseball 1st round game in Dyersville, 9th-ranked Cascade will play MFL-MarMac. The winner plays Monticello tomorrow night at 5pm back in Dyersville.
