HS Sports: Results From 4-20

In High School Track and Field, it was the final night for athletes to qualify for next weeks Drake Relays in Des Moines. Final results of which athletes/teams made the top 24 in each event will be released this weekend.

The West Delaware Girls held their annual invitational in Manchester featuring 15 teams. Cascade won the trophy with 117 points, Western Dubuque 2nd with 85, Vinton-Shellsburg 3rd with 54, Marion 4th with 53, West Delaware was 6th with 34, Independence 9th with 26, 11th was Ed-Co with 21, Maquoketa Valley 13th with 16, 13th Beckman with 16 and Midland 15th with 12.

The West Delaware Boys competed in a 15-team meet in Denver. The Hawks placed fourth with 78 points. The host Cyclones won the meet with 124, Benton Community was 2nd with 108.5, Jesup 3rd with 87. For West Delaware Jared Helle placed 3rd in the 100 meter dash, Kasey Wenger and Cole Engel placed 4th and 6th in the 110 hurdles, in the 3200 meter run Brady Carroll placed 6th, Harrison Goebel earned the top slot in the discus, Kabryn Cook was first in the high jump, Kaleb Sparks was 6th in the shot put. The Hawks were 1st in the 4×200, 4th in the 4×400, 3rd in the 4×800 and shuttle hurdle relay, 6th in the 800 sprint medley, 2nd in the 4×100 and 3rd in the weightman’s 4×100.

In Monticello at their co-ed meet:

Seventeen teams total in action, 9 on the girls side as the host Panthers were the team champ with 160.5 points, 2nd was Anamosa with 103.5, North Cedar 3rd with 72, North Linn was 4th with 71, CP-U 5th with 70, Springville 6th with 51, 7th was East Buchanan with 26.

On the boys side- Anamosa won the team crown with 140 points, Monticello and North Linn tied for 2nd with 84, 4th was Maquoketa Valley with 79, North Cedar and CP-U tied for 5th with 74, 7th was Springville with 42 and 8th was East Buchanan with 12.

The West Delaware Boys Soccer team lost a hard fought effort to the 4th-ranked team in Class 1A, Solon, on the road, falling 3-0. The Hawks dropped to 0-7 on the season and will travel to Maquoketa this afternoon for a 5pm first kick. The WD girls soccer team will host Maquoketa starting at 5:15pm.
