The high school portion of the 105th running of the Drake Relays wrapped up in Des Moines with beautiful weather conditions Saturday. Monticello’s boys’ 4×800 meter relay team of Ahlrichs, Meyers, Manternach and Melchert upset a few of the big schools with a time of 7:51.46 to claim first place.
The Hawk boys golf team hosted their own West Delaware Invitational, it featured 8 teams on Saturday at Pin Oak with a par of 71. The Hawks “A” squad took first place honors by shooting a 312, 2nd was Waterloo Columbus followed by Monticello in 3rd with a 360, Anamosa had 366 for 4th, Western Dubuque’s 375 gave them 6th place, West Delaware’s “B” squad took 7th with a 383 and Independence finished 8th with a 384. The Hawks secured the top 3 spots with Clayton Larsen taking medalist honors with a 72; Harrison Guetzko was second with a 73 and Bryce Frick 3rd with a 79.
In girls’ golf at the Tara Hills course in Van Horne at the Benton Community Invite which hosted 5 teams, Williamsburg was first with a 372, Independence came in 4th by firing a 422.
