HS Wrestling: Saturday 1-7 Recap

Area wrestlers competed in the first weekend competition of 2017 this past weekend.

In Van Horne: Over 25 ranked wrestlers took part in the Jerry Eckenrod Invitational at Benton Community on Saturday and wrestlers from West Delaware, North Linn, and Independence were a part of the 16 team field. North Linn had two champions on their way to a sixth place team finish, as fifth ranked in class 1A Brady Henderson won the 126 pound title by knocking off fourth ranked in class 3A Will Foreman of Cedar Rapids Washington 6-5 in the semifinals and defeated 10th ranked in class 2A Sean Casey of Davenport Assumption 6-0 in the championship match. Second ranked heavyweight Kyler Schott spent just 2 minutes and 28 seconds on the mat picking up three pins including one in 1:29 in the finals over ninth ranked David Bonner of Cedar Rapids Jefferson. West Delaware finished in eighth place as sophomore Mitchel Mangold won the 145 pound title, and Independence finished in 14th place as senior Peyton Nolting finished in fifth place for the Mustangs. In Delhi: Maquoketa Valley hosted five teams for their dual tournament and went 5-0 on the day to win the tournament while Beckman went 4-1 on their way to a runner-up finish. For dual results click HERE.

In Hampton: East Buchanan went 3-1 in the Hampton-Dumont duals as they defeated Belmond-Klemme 45-24, Hampton-Dumont 39-21, and Northwood-Kensett 52-30, and fell to Lake Mills 58-17. For dual results click HERE.

In Marion: Western Dubuque went 5-0 and won the Linn Mar duals as they went 4-0 in pool b defeating Ankeny Centennial, Clinton, Marion and Keokuk before defeating WaMaC conference foe Mount Vernon 61-16 in the championship dual. For complete results click HERE.

In Brooklyn: The Anamosa wrestling team finished in fourth place at the Corky Stuart Invitational at BGM as they were led by Morgan Rowley as he went 3-0 with three falls on his way to winning the 126 pound bracket. For complete results click HERE.

In Guttenburg: Ed-Co took part in the Clayton Ridge duals which were held on Friday as the Vikings went 2-1 with wins over Central Elkader 60-12, and Clayton Ridge 51-24 with their one loss coming to Postville 48-27. For dual results click HERE.
