HS Wrestling: Western Dubuque Prepares For State Duals

The Western Dubuque wrestling team will take part in the 2017 class 3A State Dual Tournament today as the fourth seeded Bobcats will open with the fifth seed Waverly-Shell Rock at 11:00 am from the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The Bobcats are making their first appearance in the state duals since 2009 and second in school history as they take on a Go-Hawk team who has qualified 12 out of the last 13 years with four state titles in 2005, 08, 09, and 2010. The two teams met this season before Christmas at the Battle of Waterloo in a dual that Waverly-Shell Rock won 42-36, so Western Dubuque head coach Paul Cleary knows his team will have to be ready for a team with a lot of good wrestling tradition:

The Bobcats hit the road for Des Moines yesterday afternoon with a good portion of their wrestling team and although not all the wrestlers will wrestle in the duals Cleary is excited for the memories that his team will make on this trip:

As always Bobcat Nation has been very supportive of the wrestling team and even set a record for the most state wrestling t-shirts sold, and the support of the fans does not go unnoticed by the team or coaching staff:

The Bobcats and Go-Hawks will take the mats at 11:00 am as the winner will take on the winner between top seeded Southeast Polk and the eighth seed Cedar Rapids Prairie. You can hear all of the hold by hold action starting a little before 11 this morning with Roger Reed, Jamie Vaske, and West Delaware state champion Zach McCool on Mix 94.7 KMCH and KMCH.com
