Mix 94.7 KMCH in Manchester is looking for a Part-Time On-Air Announcer/Board Operator.
This position requires working Saturday mornings as an on-air announcer from 5 am to approximately 9 am once or twice per month. Saturday morning duties include on-air radio announcing (local newscasts and sportscasts, funeral announcements, birthday show, etc., as well as recording voicetracks). Saturday morning duties also include operating the control board, gathering information (for news, sports, funeral announcements, etc.), downloading weather forecasts and other programs to air on the radio, as well as using various computers, checking email and answering phone calls.
On occasion, a Sunday morning shift may be available from 6 to 10:30 am (with duties similar to Saturday’s shift).
This position also requires operating the control board for radio programming (such as sporting events, live broadcasts, etc.) on various weeknights and weekends. The board operator remains in the studio during the shift and is responsible for getting the broadcaster on the air through controls at the station. Board operator duties include communicating off-air with the broadcaster, operating the control board, recording/editing audio and possible on-air announcing, as well as updating KMCH’s social media pages, answering phones and checking emails. A board operator shift can vary from one hour to several hours, but typically is at least two hours.
This position is also part of a “Weather Watch” rotation. All on-air staff participate in “Weather Watch”, with each staff member assigned two weeks (between May and September) in which they are responsible for getting severe weather watches, warnings and announcements immediately on the air. Weekdays are covered by full-time staff, but during your assigned week, you must be available to come to the station weeknights and weekends to provide live weather coverage or record weather voicetracks (whichever is appropriate).
This position may also require public appearances, including conducting/assisting with live broadcasts, driving the KMCH vehicle in parades, hosting KMCH’s Delaware County Fair booth and appearing at other station events as needed.
Starting wage for this position is $8 per hour, with wage increases possible.
Hours may vary from 0 – 20 hours per week, depending on the time of year. The Assistant Program Director schedules the part-time shifts based on each employee’s availability.
Radio experience is not necessary, but computer experience is very helpful. Looking for a good communicator who can be a reliable addition to our team!
