Marie Helen Drees, 93, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on April 24, 1921, on the family farm near New Vienna, Iowa, the daughter of Barney and Barbara (Steffen) Schulte. She received her education at St. Boniface School in New Vienna. Marie was united in marriage to Eugene W. Drees on June 14, 1943, in the St. Boniface Church in New Vienna. Together they farmed near Greeley until their retirement in 1997, when they moved to rural Manchester.
Marie was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, the St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society, and the Farm Bureau. She was a former 4-H leader for the Greeley Go-Getters 4-H Club. Marie enjoyed ballroom dancing, gardening, and traveling.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Walachy of Holyoke, Massachusetts; one grandson, Brian M. Walachy; one brother, Albert (Blanche) Schulte of New Vienna; and several nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene in 1995; her parents; an infant son, James; her son-in-law, John Walachy; four brothers, Joe, Lawrence, Alphonse, and Elmer Schulte; and four sisters, Catherine Lux, Alvina Beringer, Leona Schulte, and Rose Menke.
