Neglected Horses Find New Homes during Friday's Adoption Process
03/21/2008
It was a happy ending Friday for the sixteen horses that were rescued from livestock neglect in Fayette County earlier this month. All of the horses were adopted during an adoption process Friday morning. Forty-four people signed up for the chance to adopt one of the horses. Everyone had the opportunity to put their ticket in the drawing for each of the animals. A one hundred dollar fee was collected to help offset the costs of caring for the animals. Sheriff Marty Fisher says everything went extremely well and that they were happy to see the horses go to new homes where they will be properly cared for. The horses had been rescued from animal neglect after they were found on a farm north of Postville starving to death, eating wood off their feed bunks and bark off of trees they could reach. A New Hampton man was arrested in the case.
