Dbq. Co. Rezones Farley Land for Potential Company
03/26/2008
JT 032608 Dubuque Co. Votes to Rezone Farley Land 9AM
Land near Farley has been rezoned in hopes to house a new facility. On Monday, the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors approved to rezone 75 acres adjacent to the city's west side corporate line from agricultural to heavy industrial. The board unanimously agreed to waive the second and third readings of the motion. An international company, whose name has not yet been announced, is looking at building a facility on the land, and officials wanted to quickly finalize the zoning if the site is chosen. Greater Dubuque officials have been working with the company, and hope to know by mid-April what the company's final site decision will be. The project, if it goes through, is expected to cost more than 70 million dollars, with the company bringing new jobs to the area. James and Joan Willenbring own the land, and if the company decides to build somewhere else other than Farley, the land would not be rezoned. The zoning amendment actually won't be published or added to Dubuque County's zoning map until the city of Farley begins the process of annexing the land.
