Area Teachers Awarded Grants through Farm Bureau
04/17/2008
Around two dozen area teachers received grants from the Iowa Farm Bureau recently through the Teacher Supplement Program. In a time of tight and shrinking school budgets, the program provides the necessary tools to educate students about agriculture and food production. Teachers in kindergarten through 12th grade could apply for up to two hundred dollars in funding. West Delaware Reading Strategist Jacque Lahr was one of the grant recipients.

All of the kindergarten teachers at West Delaware Lambert also received grants. Kindergarten teacher Jill Carpenter says they really appreciate the funding.
The fourth grade teachers at Lambert also all received grants from the Farm Bureau. Fourth grade teacher Marc Snavely says the funds will allow the students to experience agriculture at a state attraction.
And the kindergarten and fourth grade teachers weren't the only West Delaware staff members to receive grants. Other recipients include first grade teachers Nancy Cook and Leann Van Dyke, second grade teachers Linda Mensen, Lisa Hoefer, Nancy Feldt, Jennifer Pettlon and Melanie Schiltz, and third grade teachers Carmen Cooke, Karla Beckman and Lucia Hutchcroft. Lambert Elementary Reading teacher Carolyn Klein and Reading Recovery teacher Diane Bean also received grants, along with Ed-Co teacher Kayla Ramsey. The Farm Bureau awarded over six hundred teachers throughout Iowa grants through the Teacher Supplement Program.
