03/20/2008
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - First-year Drake coach Keno Davis, who
led the Bulldogs to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 37
years, is the Henry Iba (EYE'-buh) coach of the year by the U.S.
Basketball Writers Association.
Davis led the 16th-ranked Bulldogs to a 28-4 record and the
Missouri Valley Conference's regular-season and tournament titles.
Drake is the fifth seed in the West Region and will face Sun
Belt champions Western Kentucky (27-6) tomorrow in Tampa.
The award is named in honor of Henry Iba, who led Oklahoma A&M
to the national championships in 1945 and 1046.
Davis is also a finalist for the 2008 Naismith Coach of the Year
Award. Last week, he was named Coach of the Year by the Sporting
News magazine.
