Delaware County Ready to Accept Bids for Construction of New Jail Facility

Delaware County is getting ready to accept bids for construction of the new county jail and Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, the County Board of Supervisors set the bid letting for November 21st. County Supervisor Jeff Madlom:

Delaware County voters approved the five-point-nine million dollar project this spring. The County just recently closed on the Vontalge property, which sits at 1225 West Howard Street in Manchester on the far west end of town. The new 19,836 square foot facility will accommodate administrative offices, support areas and a 42-bed jail with expansion capability of 28 beds. Madlom says they’re hoping to get started on it yet this year.

The County anticipates that the new jail facility will be completed a little over a year from now in November of 2020. They say the new site will be a major improvement over the current jail and Sheriff’s Office next to the courthouse, which has been cited by the state jail inspector for not meeting state requirements.

Any contractors interested in submitting sealed bids for general construction, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, security doors and electronics and a fire sprinkler system should file with the Delaware County Auditor before 3:30 pm on November 21st. A pre-bid letting will be held November 6th at the Delaware County Supervisors office, at which time contractors can ask questions and get clarifications from the architect.
