The West Delaware wrestling team had a great finish to the 2019 portion of their schedule going 8-2 with two tournament team titles and a 3rd place finish at the 32 team Battle of Waterloo. The Hawks will look to carry that momentum into the new year as they host Decorah tonight under the lamp in the old Hawk’s Nest upstairs at West Delaware High School. West Delaware head coach Jeff Voss said his team had a really strong finish going into the holiday break facing some of the best competition in the state:
Voss says the break came at a good time for the Hawks and gave them plenty of time to work on some of the things the coaching staff saw they needed to get better at, and adds that the kids came back into the room eager to work on those areas:
The Hawks have seen Decorah twice in the first two weeks of the season at the Bob Murphy Invitational and at the South Winneshiek Invitational. The Vikings come into tonight’s dual 3-3 which includes two dual meet wins last night against Oelwein and Caledonia-Houston, MN and although the Hawks are favored in the dual Voss says there are some individual match-ups that will show them how much his team has improved since the first two weeks of the season:
Tonight’s dual meet gets underway with the JV starting at 6:00 with the varsity to follow and can be heard live at our website KMCH.com with Roger Reed and Jamie Vaske.
