West Delaware Starts New Learning Plans Tuesday

West Delaware will begin their new learning opportunities on Tuesday.

Schools across Iowa have been closed for the past four weeks – since March 16th – and the closures were recently pushed back until April 30th, with Governor Kim Reynolds giving school districts until April 10th to submit their plans for teaching students from home.

West Delaware Superintendent Dr. Kristen Rickey says they have decided to go with required learning for their seniors and voluntary learning opportunities for all other students in the school district.

Rickey say they are working on back-up plans for a graduation ceremony.

West Delaware is also making plans for a different format for Senior Awards Night. And it was announced on Friday that West Delaware will be postponing prom, which had originally been scheduled for May 2nd.

Rickey assures parents that West Delaware is doing everything possible to make sure the students’ needs are taken care of during this time.

And Rickey says, if absolutely necessary, students will be allowed to come to school to pick up books and materials on Tuesday from 10 to 11 am and 2 to 4 pm, as well as Wednesday from 8:30 to 10:30 am.
