The Delaware County Relay for Life event as we know it will not be held this year, but they’re still offering everyone the opportunity to purchase a luminary this year.
The luminaries are white paper bags that you can decorate with artwork and words to pay tribute to someone battling cancer or someone you’ve lost to the disease. They’re typically lit from inside with a candle or tea light during a ceremony at the Relay for Life.
Committee member Cathy Lilienthal says they’re hoping everyone will light up the luminaries from wherever they are.
Getting a form for the luminaries will also need to be done a little differently this year. They’ll only be available through a container outside of the front doors of Brehme Drug in Manchester.
A form for the luminaries will also be posted on the Delaware County Iowa Relay for Life Facebook page.
The Delaware County Relay for Life announced last month they were cancelling this year’s Relay for Life event as we know it, but they are still holding a couple of activities to help celebrate. A social distancing “drive-in” style concert will be held on Friday, June 26th at the Delaware County Fairgrounds starring local talent Darrell, Jacque and Connie, which will be followed by a car parade. Times for the events and further details will be finalized soon.
