Area Soldiers Deploying to Middle East on Saturday

Over one hundred Iowa Army National Guard soldiers will be deploying to the Middle East on Saturday.

Around 130 soldiers from Dubuque’s Company A of the 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry Regiment, will be honored at a closed-to-the-public formal ceremony at the Dubuque Readiness Center.

Afterwards, family, friends and the community will be able to line the roads, streets, bridges and parking lots as the soldiers’ buses and escorts leave the armory around 1:30 pm.

The buses will be escorted by the Dubuque police and fire departments and Freedom Riders through Dubuque and eventually out Highway 20 towards Dyersville and Manchester as they make their way to Des Moines.

Everyone is encouraged to show their support along the route with signs, honks and waves as our area soldiers are sent off to active duty.

The battalion will support Operation Spartan Shield in the Middle East. This marks the fifth federal mobilization for the battalion since 2000 and first since their 2010 deployment to Afghanistan.
