Along with Linn County, Jones County was hit hard by Monday’s derecho too.
Jones County Emergency Management Coordinator Brenda Leonard says the majority of damage is in the southern half of the county, with the worst along and north of the Cedar County line. She says in that area, every farm and acreage has major damage to buildings and crops.
Countless electric poles are either snapped or laying on the ground. Leonard says at one point, there were power outages in all of Jones County’s towns. She says they are down to only two towns still without power. All agencies have been working on storm clean-up.
The Jones County Board of Supervisors and the cities have declared emergencies and the Governor added Jones County into the state disaster proclamation on Wednesday. That opens up the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program for those who meet the qualifications.
