Crews are making good progress on building the new Delaware County Jail and Sheriff’s Office.
Work started earlier this year at the site on the far west end of Manchester at 1225 West Howard Street. The new 19,000 square foot facility will include a 42-bed jail with the ability to expand to 28 more beds, as well as administrative offices, a kitchen and support areas.
County Supervisor Jeff Madlom tours the progress of the facility nearly every night and says construction is going well.
Contractors’ bids for the project came in higher than expected last fall, raising the cost to around $800,000 more than the $5.9 million that the County bonded – but the Board of Supervisors has vowed that they would cut costs as the project goes on and possibly dip into savings to keep the cost at what was promised to voters.
Construction on the new Delaware County Jail and Sheriff’s Office is expected to be completed in January, with plans to hold an open house for the public before moving inmates and staff to the new building.
