Zumbach and Hein Face Challengers in State Senate and House Races

State Senator Dan Zumbach was part of U.S. Senator Joni Ernst’s tour stop in Manchester on Saturday.

Zumbach is running for re-election in State Senate District 48, a position he has held since 2013. The Republican lifelong farmer, who lives between Manchester and Ryan, says his goal is always to listen to his constituents.

Zumbach’s Democratic opponent is Eric Green, a small business owner who has lived in and around Monticello pretty much his entire life. Green says there are several things he’d like to see accomplished if he’s elected, with his main focus on education.

Green says he also thinks income inequality is an issue – he wants to raise minimum wage to a living wage – and he thinks the legislature needs to form a better plan on how to deal with COVID.

Meanwhile in the State House, Representative Lee Hein of Monticello is running for re-election in District 96, a position he’s held since 2011. Hein says the state budget is always his number one priority, but EMS funding for rural areas is a goal he’s been working on too.

Hein’s Democratic opponent is Everett Chase of Monticello, who did not respond to our request for an interview.
