COVID-19 Relief Program Launched to Help Iowa Movie Theaters

Movie theaters across Iowa are getting a helping hand.

Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Economic Development Authority have announced the launch of the new Iowa Movie Theatre Relief Program. The program will provide short-term relief to eligible movie theatres to alleviate some of the economic strain they’ve experience because of the pandemic.

Movie theatres like Castle Theatre in Manchester were required to close when the pandemic began – and once they re-opened this summer, attendance was limited due to social distancing.

The Iowa Movie Theatre Relief Fund will provide up to $10,000 per screen to help the nearly 150 movie theatres housing approximately 550 screens. The state has allocated up to $5.5 million of federal CARES Act funds for the program.

The manager of Castle Theatre says they definitely plan to apply for funding when the application period opens today.
