Manchester City Council Considering Water & Sewer Rate Increases

The City of Manchester took the first step to slightly increasing water, sewer and solid waste rates last night.
The Manchester City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance that amends the rates, raising water rates by 2%, sewer rates by 1% and solid waste collection fees by 65 cents a month to $12.25 a month.
For an individual who uses 3,000 gallons of water a month, their bill would increase by $1.42 per month. Families who average 6,000 gallons of water a month would see their bills increase by $2.02 per month.
Mayor Milt Kramer says the City would rather do small increases every year instead of a large increase every 3 to 4 years so residents can plan ahead.
The rate increases are not official yet. The Council still needs to approve the second and third reading of the ordinance. If approved, the new rates will go into effect on the bills sent to Manchester residents at the end of January.
